Letter From Our Athletic Director

To all of our new and returning WSHS families, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the new school year!

Our Athletic Department Staff and School Admin Team are all looking forward to many exciting athletic events this fall and throughout the year.  Our department staff has been working hard to help ensure a great year for all of our student athletes.

I am very excited to take on the challenge of leading our Athletic Department, and I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce myself.  I'm a long time Winter Springs resident (Keeth Elementary class of 1986!), and I've been heavily involved with athletics in our community.  My wife Alicia and I are also parents of multi-sport student athletes at our school, so I have a vested interest in the strength of our entire Athletic Department and the positive experiences it will bring to all of our families and our community as a whole.   After 20 years I have recently retired from coaching (total of 7 different sports), most recently serving as WSHS Head Wrestling Coach since 2006. Over the past 10 seasons our wrestling program has produced some amazing individual talent with 62 Seminole Athletic Conference Champions, 66 District Champions, 72 State Qualifiers, 33 Regional Champions, 39 State Place Winners including 16 State Finalists and 9 FHSAA State Champions.  We have also been very fortunate to have four different wrestlers capture National Championships along the way.  In addition to all of this individual success, we have also had a very strong team presence year round, especially during the FHSAA post season.  Our squads have compiled a 135-8 record since 2009 while winning 7 Straight Seminole Athletic Conference Team Titles, 9 Straight District Team Titles with 9 Straight Top 2 Region finishes. We also have a streak of 10 straight Top 10 State finishes, including 5 Top 5. In 2015 our team finished 2nd in the state out of 140 schools. This experience has given me a great wealth of knowledge I will share with all of our coaches to help them guide our kids to get to the top in athletics and more importantly in life.

The WSHS Athletics Department holds the philosophy that the athlete's most important task is the pursuit of personal growth through academic work while benefiting from their athletic experiences.  Our department strives to maintain an outstanding athletics program conducted in a manner that sets an example for good sportsmanship.  Moving forward we will be conducting large department wide fundraising events that will help benefit all of our programs.  Our vision is to get the entire community on board to help support growing opportunities for our kids.  All sport parents are highly encouraged to volunteer with their teams.  Just contact your head coach for details on how you can help out.  We welcome all students to participate in our interscholastic sports programs.  Sports are also a excellent way to grow emotionally as an individual while learning valuable life skills. To learn more about individual sports program requirements, tryouts, schedules, etc., please contact the head coaches listed on our site

Thanks,

Scott Gomrad
